Compressed mode enables MAHO during hard handover
Gaps in UL and/or DL RF transmissions
Gaps (idle time) can be created by partially speed up data rate
UE performs measurements for MAHO during this idle time. Then UE can search other cell
(W-CDMA or GSM)
There are three method for compressing data
Spreading Factor Reduction
Bit Puncturing
