New Frequency Assignment for W-CDMA in 800MHz Band

(Band VI)

䇭䇭Band VI was newly assigned in 䋳GPP-FDD specification. This band was used for analog

cellular, PDC, MCA, Tele-terminal, etc. 10MHz each for UL and DL.

Handover and Compressed mode

When Band I 䋨IMT2000) and Band VI 䋨UMTS800) coexist in service area, hard

handover between frequency bands is required.

To find candidates of other carriers in different band, compressed mode

technology is introduced.

Compressed mode is also used for UMTS-FDD to GSM inter-system hard

handover.

In the following session, we go through overview of handover technologies used in UMTS-FDD system.

And then mechanism of compressed mode in hard handover is reviewed.
