Incremental Redundancy – Example using MCS-9
The original data is 1/3 coded and then punctured in three ways. The
first TX is sent if in error 2nd is sent and combined with the first
increasing redundancy and so on with the third, by which time the 1/3
redundancy is reproduced

Incremental Redundancy
– Retransmission using different coding Schemes
In EGPRS it is possible for data to be retransmitted using a
different coding Scheme.
These retransmissions must use coding schemes from the same
family
There will be segmentation between coding schemes of same
family
• When using MCS-8 it is necessary to add padding to data, as
padding is added before the channel coding incremental
redundancy recombining is not possible
